Born in Srem, Poland, Maciej Lyko’s interest in wine started at a young age, with his career beginning at one of Poland’s leading wine merchants – Mielzynski Wine and Spirits. Following six years as a salesman, learning all the nuances of the wines on sale, he rose to a sales management position, which came as both a reward for his hard work and consolidation that he wished to pursue a career in the industry.
During the time, he also successfully passed the Wine and Spirits Education Trust Advanced Exam which all helped lead to his decision in 2014 to move to London in order to pursue his career in wines.
Upon arrival in the United Kingdom, Maciej joined the Michelin-starred restaurant by Gordon Ramsay, ‘Maze’ as a sommelier, which helped prepare him for his move to Launceston Place in 2015 where he took the position of Assistant Head Sommelier to Piotr Petras. With two year’s experience in the restaurant and now holding the Advanced Court of Master Sommeliers Certificate, Maciej is now preparing to take the Master Sommelier exam.
Maciej’s extensive knowledge of both food and wine ensures that only the best wines are selected to accompany Head Chef Ben Murphy’s exquisite food.
